Hi, My name is Tracy Misner and in 1985 I graduated from Belmont University with a Music Business Degree with a concentration in the Music Business. Later that year, I walked into Studio One and met Greg Quesnel and helped on the Johnny Van Zant album, Last of the Wild Ones.
After being in the studio for about a month or so, I realized that I could not sit in a control room with people smoking, so I left. But the memory of that time lingers in me because Studio One was that memorable.
Fast forward 25 years and i happen to be in a recording studio with Melanie Mills, Rodney Mills' daughter! And she suggests that I do a documentary about the studio. I interview Rodney who gives me Jr Cobb's information and I interview JR. JR, in turn gives me Buddy Buie's contact. i drive out to Alabama and get Buddy's story.
In 2012, I put all creative projects on hold as I face a personal family tragedy. The footage gets placed on a hard drive and put on a shelf.
In the summer of 2018, I take out the footage and pay someone to reformat my hard drive so I can open the files and I watched magic! the beginning of the story starts to unfold. Covid hits and I contact Al Kooper on a whim--he responds and the project is back up and running. Greg Quesnel and Rodney Justo sign on. Former Starbuck drummer, Kenny Crysler signs on... and so the story begins to take more shape.
And now I am reaching out to all those that shared that magic in that "funky little place!"
